Extruded Aluminum Nosings
StarTread Extruded Aluminum Safety Nosings:
Short form specifications
Nosings will be StarTread style by Barry Pattern and Foundry, Birmingham, AL. Filler will consist of aluminum oxide / silicon carbide abrasives in a waterproof binder. Base will be 6063-T6 heat treated aluminum and will be 204R1 clear anodized. Thickness of abrasive filler will be 3/16 of an inch with overall thickness not less than 1/4 of an inch. Standard fill color will be black unless otherwise specified.
General installation instructions
On wood steps, treads are installed with wood screws. Adhesive is not required. On concrete, marble, terrazzo, granite, or any other hard surface, adhesive is applied to the step surface and to the underside of the StarTread Repair Tread. The tread is then set in place and a hole is drilled into the step surface. A Tapcon masonry anchor is then dropped into the hole and tightened down. Brush or vacuum dust from the surface of the step and the installation is complete.
Nosings installed in poured concrete normally have a clearance of 3" to 4" at each end and are installed even with the riser line.
Nosings for steel pans are installed the full length of the steel pan less 1/8 " from each end.
